Walking in the Rain

My morning walk was different than any I have taken since the spring. Today raindrops were falling on my head.

Walking in light rain as I did this morning is not pleasant but is not impossible.

Jan and I walked everywhere we could. Sometimes we walked without a destination.

The day we met, we walked around NYC and enjoyed every moment together. We talked, laughed, and fell even deeper in love.

Walking in the rain, sunshine, or snow always reminds me of walking with Jan.

Our love will never die, even in a downpour.

Why I Walk Every Day

Even though grief is currently the main focus of my life, I have found comfort in taking walks. Walking helps me to clear my mind, stay physically active, and feel connected to my loved ones. Each step brings me closer to Jan, the love of my life, and reminds me that love never dies; it can be reignited with every step we take.

Thunderstorm in Teaneck

Once when we lived in Teaneck, Jan and our older son Jon were at an event several blocks from our house. A thunderstorm to end all storms hit, and I drove out to find them. I had dropped them off, but they planned to walk home.

They were happy to see our car and offered a ride instead of walking in a thunderstorm.

Raindrops Keep Fallin' on My Head

Jan and I enjoyed this song and the movie Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.

Today, the uplifting lyrics describe somebody who overcomes his troubles and worries by realizing that “it won’t be long ’till happiness steps up to greet me.” Our love will never die, even in a downpour.

What We Can Know: A Novel
