Jan’s Memory is a Blessing for Everyone!
Sunday Surprise in Hanson Park
Estimated reading time: 1 minute, 9 secondsMy Apple Watch tracks every step I take, even though no two strides are the same. Today, I enjoyed a nearly pain-free walk, even though I was moving at a leisurely pace. I didn’t get home until after 11 PM last night because I attended a community-wide Selichot service. This preparatory service helps set the tone for the upcoming Days of Awe, a period of introspection and repentance in the Jewish tradition.
During the first four miles, I greeted fellow walkers and runners with cheerful hellos, the crisp morning air filling my lungs. However, by the time I completed my second loop through Hanson Park, I was focused on getting home for breakfast. As I walked past the Butterfly Garden, a couple with a dog approached me.
After I greeted them, they stopped. The woman, whom I had seen several times but couldn’t recall when we had met, said, “Your wife’s garden is absolutely gorgeous and brings such a sense of peace! We always admire it whenever we’re in the park. I really wish we could have met her!”
Her words had a profound impact on me, filling me with a sense of gratitude. During the rest of my walk, I felt light on my feet, with tears of joy streaming down my face. Jan’s memory will always be a blessing, even for those she never had the chance to know.
