Why I Walk Every Day
Estimated reading time: 0 minutes, 54 seconds
Thich Nhat Hanh once wrote, “It is wonderful enough just to be alive, to breathe in, and to make one step.”
By starting my day with a walk, I can avoid being consumed by grief and instead live my life to the fullest.

Camino de Santiago
Estimated reading time: 0 minutes, 54 secondsArthur Brooks’s essay – Go for a Walk – is a must-read for those who like to walk or need the motivation to walk more.
He includes the full quote from the Buddhist master Thich Nhat Hanh once wrote of walking meditation.
“Each mindful breath, each mindful step, reminds us that we are alive on this beautiful planet. We don’t need anything else. It is wonderful enough just to be alive, to breathe in, and to make one step.”
His 100-mile trek on the Camino de Santiago is inspiring.
Cold Walking
Estimated reading time: 0 minutes, 54 secondsToday’s walk was very unusual. It was the coldest weather since the winter of 2019. Jan was still healthy, and my walking was not as consistent, and the distances were shorter.
So today, it was a positive five degrees Fahrenheit with the wind chill. The weather reports kept issuing a warning of instant frostbite.
I bundled up in my parka on top of my hoodie. I wrapped my scarf around my lower face and then placed the warm winter hat that Jan had given me on my head.
I walked outside for three miles and felt very cold. I came back and walked almost a mile inside the building and, after breakfast, did the last two out.
