Jan is Still in the ER!
Estimated reading time: 9 minutes, 17 secondsI am Not a Saint
“Hello, my love, how are you?” I had waited until dinner to call Jan. I was finally able to eat and relax a little. I have been a lifelong advocate, but I have never had to do so much to help one person in a crisis. Jan’s voice was more substantial than it had been in weeks.
“You are my saint!”
“I’m not a saint. I am your husband who loves you more than anything in the world.”
“I love you too. I could not do this without your love and support.”
I had to struggle to hold back my tears.
“I will always think of you as not only the man I love but also my saint,” Jan declared.
“I will be your saint if you will be mine,” I responded. “I love you. I always will. I will do whatever you need me to do. Today, tomorrow, and forever.”

After almost 48 years, I recently lost my wife, Jan Lilien. Like The Little Prince, Jan and I believed that “The most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or touched, they are felt with the heart.” This blog is a collection of my random thoughts on love, grief, life, and all things considered.
